W Durable Goods

With W Durable Goods, we saw an opportunity to partner with a cool company — one with products we appreciated and a brand we believed in. After visiting their storefront and experiencing great design, we knew there was an opportunity to help them grow beyond the store.

At the same time, this husband-and-wife team realized they had reached the ceiling of what they could do alone and were ready for an external marketing partner. Instead of a typical marketing budget, we created an arrangement where our team was compensated through a share of increased sales. Learn more about our unique relationship.

The philosophy and style Daniel applies to his work is the most compelling piece of the W Durable Goods story. The most impactful way to share that story is through video. With the help of our friends at Ultralite Films, we opened a window into Daniel’s life as the designer and maker of W Durable Goods.

Hand-painted illustrations were created from custom photography. You’ll recognize the look found in magazine ads from the 1930s and ’40s. Many of the design practices and materials used by Daniel come from this era, so it was fitting for us to apply a similar approach.

We embraced the brand’s nostalgic vibe in our design and carried it through each item we produced. A badge design was developed to serve as a visual system throughout each area of the digital experience. In true W Durable Goods fashion, we focused on quality first and left out the extra frills often found in brand design.

DIGITAL

A traditional approach to e-commerce doesn’t work for W Durable Goods. Daniel has a unique way of choosing and promoting his products, so we needed to build a website to match. We did that by embracing an Instagram-like approach for an e-commerce website where anything could be posted and made available for purchase on the fly.
